Western Australia's next football stars will be hoping to catch the eye of national selectors during the upcoming Football Federation Australia National Youth Championships in Coffs Harbour next month.
WA U14 and U15 boy's teams will join the top players from around Australia for the tournament, set to take place from the 3rd to 10th October, 2009.
The NYC are typically used to identify players for selection in under age national teams and give players the opportunity to test themselves against the nation's best.
"Our primary aim is to see as many of our players identified for national selection as possible" said U14 WA coach Barry Wood.
"Outside of that, we would be disappointed if we weren't able to reach the semi finals as I feel we have a lot of players who are very good technically, have pace and adapted to our style of play very well".
"With a bit of luck along the way, a spot in the final wouldn't be out of the question" said Wood.
Football West Education and Development Manager, Andrew Bettell is looking forward to seeing how the teams go in the national tournament.
"The boys have been training hard for the championships and it will be good for them to be pitted against the best talent that Australia has to offer."
"Experiences like the National Youth Championships are great for these talented young players and a good chance for them to see if they have what it takes to achieve national selection" he said.
Andrew Ord will take charge of the U15's team. The WA squads will depart Perth on October 2.
